A new Path of Exile 2 league does not need to start with an expensive, fully finished build. This Arc Totem setup takes a more practical route: level with Grenades, build a steady pool of POE 2 Currency, then move into Arc Totems once the character has the right level, passive points, and Spirit support. That approach feels much smoother than forcing the endgame skill too soon. Grenades clear the story quickly, handle crowded rooms well, and still bring enough single-target pressure for the tougher fights.
Why Grenades Carry the Campaign
Cluster Grenades come into their own at about level 14. You can throw them ahead of your character, keep moving, and let the overlapping explosions deal with most packs before they get close. That matters during the story, where stopping for every group slows the whole run down. Narrow hallways are comfortable, open areas are manageable, and the skill does not need a perfect weapon to feel useful.
Mirage Archer adds another layer of damage while you keep throwing. It is especially handy against bosses, since you can focus on avoiding attacks instead of standing still for every cast. The campaign route can include the usual side quests, the Act 4 Grand Expedition, and the first two Ascendancy unlocks in around seven hours for an experienced player. Your own time may be longer, of course, but the main point stays the same: Grenades let you reach maps without wasting early resources on gear that will soon be replaced.
Make the Arc Totem Swap at the Right Time
The tempting move is to switch as soon as Arc Totems become available. Resist that urge. The build usually feels ready around level 75, after three Ascendancy points and a healthy amount of passive investment. By then, you should have enough Spirit, mana support, and defensive strength to make the new setup feel stable rather than awkward.
Before that point, Arc Totems can leave you short on damage or struggling to maintain the resources needed for each fight. Grenades remain faster through the campaign and early progression, so there is little value in changing skills simply because the final build looks exciting on paper. Once the key nodes and gear are in place, Arc Totems offer a stronger platform for map clearing and boss encounters. The swap should feel like an upgrade, not a gamble with your progress.
Gear Priorities on a Small Budget
The early version of this build can work with roughly ten Exalted Orbs, which makes it a sensible choice for a new league economy. Start with the wand. A strong option has plus four to spell skills, useful cast speed, and extra spell damage. You do not need every modifier at once, but the wand should be one of your first serious upgrades because it improves nearly every part of the Arc setup.
Spirit is just as important. Aim for about 225 total Spirit, with a high-Spirit Scepter doing much of the work. Early on, a Scepter with around 165 Spirit or more is a good target. Strong rolls may cost more, so do not ignore armour pieces that happen to carry Spirit. A helmet or body armour with 50 or more Spirit can bridge the gap while you save for a better weapon.
An amulet with plus two spell skills gives a clear damage increase, although it may be overpriced during the first day or two. A plus one amulet is perfectly acceptable if the cheaper option lets you improve your defences elsewhere. Rings should cover cast speed, mana, and missing resistances. Boots need movement speed, while the helmet and body armour should add Energy Shield and useful defensive modifiers. It is better to wear a plain item that fixes several problems than to chase one impressive stat and leave the rest of the character exposed.
Passive Planning and Early League Spending
Split Personality Templar can make the passive tree much more efficient. During the early stages, use ordinary connecting nodes to reach the clusters you need. Once the jewel is equipped, remove the less valuable routes and spend those points on stronger Energy Shield, mana, and spell-damage areas. This is not something you need to force on the first day. Treat it as a planned respec when the character has the level and equipment to benefit from it.
Keep resistances capped before chasing another small damage upgrade. A character that survives maps will earn more and progress faster than one that deals slightly higher damage but loses time on every death. Save useful Spirit armour that drops naturally, compare prices before buying a premium amulet, and leave some currency available for sudden upgrades. Gear prices move quickly at league launch, so patience can be worth more than grabbing the first item that looks close to perfect.
Final Thoughts
This starter works because each stage has a clear purpose. Grenades provide quick story progress with modest gear, while Arc Totems become the long-term option once the character reaches the right level and has enough Spirit, mana, Energy Shield, and Ascendancy support. Spend carefully, replace temporary items in sensible steps, and use Path of Exile 2 Orbs where they solve a real weakness rather than buying one flashy upgrade. Follow that progression and the build should move into early maps with far less pressure on your stash.
